For a long time now, we have seen a handful of water-proof devices released running Android, but most people end up coming to the conclusion that the benefits they offer aren't worth the trade-offs . The Motorola Defy, Samsung Rugby, and Motorola Admiral were all rugged phones, but were abandoned by their carrier and manufacturer rather quickly, leaving users out of luck when it came to operating system updates and simple bug fixes. They didn't feature very high-end specs, and essentially, most people figured that it wasn't worth suffering through sluggish, inconsistent performance to be able to dunk your phone in your bowl of cereal. Recently, however, rumors of a rugged Galaxy S4 have started appearing. Earlier rumors claimed that the device would be called the Galaxy S4 Active and be released in Europe on July 15th. Now, however, we have some more information for those of us in the United States.
According to leak superstar @evleaks, the Galaxy S4 active will also be making its way to the United States, in addition to Europe. The report claims that the device will launch on AT&T with the same Galaxy S4 Active name. The device will reportedly carry the model number SGH-I537. The standard Galaxy S4 on AT&T GT-I9295.
Unfortunately, however, details about the Galaxy S4 Active remain sparse. For one, we don't know whether the device will feature the same specs as the standard Galaxy S4, which if it did, would be really cool. It'd be great to have a device that didn't compromise on specifications just to be waterproof. The design is also somewhat of a mystery. Earlier rumors claimed the international Galaxy S4 Active would feature a metallic orange color, but it's unclear if that will also be the case with the AT&T model. Though, I personally hope that doesn't turn out to be true. Metallic orange does not sound like a very appealing color to have your smartphone be in.
We'll be sure to keep an eye out for more information regarding the Galaxy S4 Active, especially for the design of it. What would you like to see the Galaxy S4 Active have? Let us know down in the comments!
