It’s true that HTC have said that they’re only going to be launching on flagship this year but, that doesn’t stop them from releasing other devices. For a company in HTC’s position they need to release a number of smartphones to capture other sectors of the market, emerging markets are becoming big money spinners right now and for HTC to miss out on such a thing wouldn’t be the best thing for their bottom line right now. As with the HTC First, it looks like this leaked HTC 608t is going to be a device that’s decidedly in the mid-range of the market.
This 608t is a device that’s rumored to have a 4.5-inch display, a Snapdragon 400 clocked at 1.4 Ghz (like the First), 1GB of RAM and a more run of the mill 8.0 MP camera module. Judging by the low-resolution display, at just 960 x 540 it wouldn’t surprise us if this was a device that was aimed at the budget-minded sector of the market. Regardless, the 608t could turn out to be a solid device.
What’s interesting about the rumor is that it details Android 4.2 and Sense 5.0, not even the HTC One ships with Android 4.2 which could mean the 608t to be more than just another cheap handset headed to China. Just like the rumored M4, the 608t could be encased in some sort of metal casing, eschewing plastic for a better look and feel.
With smartphones here in the West growing to an average of 5.0-inches could there be room for something like this over here? Of course, pricing would be key here but, if such a device from HTC were priced well, could it succeed over here? There’s perhaps more of a demand for smaller devices than ever with manufacturers like Samsung, Sony and others all looking to bring larger devices to the market.
If HTC were to release a well-built mid-range device like this in the States, would you buy it?
