More Evidence for DROID DNA Successor on Verizon Leaks

If there's one thing every manufacturer except Samsung struggles with, it's releasing a flagship device across all major United States carriers at relatively the same time. More often than not, it seems as if Verizon is the main carrier that manufacturers struggle. When HTC originally announced the HTC One back in February, it had hoped to launch variants on Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint around the same time. As we are all aware of, though, all of those carriers have successfully launched their One variant, except of course, Verizon. According to some new information that has been dug up though, a model for Big Red may not be too far off.

Right now, the DROID DNA is Verizon's flagship device. It was released back in November of last year, but as we all know, that's a long time ago for HTC and Verizon, so it makes since that the two would already be hard at work on its successor. HTC fan blog HTCSoku has dug up code pertaining to the international variant of the DNA, known as the Butterfly, that shows a new device produced by the same manufacturer. The code was meant for the HTC Butterfly X920d, the original version of the DROID DNA, now we also see code for the  "DLXPLUS_WL", or the DLX Plus. It shows two other HTC Butterfly 2 devices carrying U and UL monikers at the end of their name.

The HTC Butterfly 2 will supposedly be an incremental update to the internals in the original DROID DNA/Butterfly. This isn't the first time we've heard about the prospect of Verizon getting a DROID DNA Plus/DLX Plus instead of an HTC One variant. Earlier reports pegged the device for release somewhere in between Q2 and Q3 of 2013.

Rumored specs the DROID DNA successor include a Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, and a 13MP camera.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor at 1.7GHz
  • 4.7-inch display 1080p resolution
  • 13 megapixel camera back-facing
  • 2.1 megapixel camera front-facing
  • Internal storage: 16GB
  • RAM 2GB
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • MicroSD card port for memory expansion
  • Sense 5.0
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Right now, we think it's unlikely that Verizon will get an official HTC One variant, but will rather get a DROID DNA Plus or something similar. What do you think? Let us know down in the comments!
