Featured Review: Braven BRV-1 Wireless Speaker

Today, we've got something a bit different that we are reviewing. It's a wireless speaker from Braven, the BRV-1. It uses Bluetooth, but you can also just plug your phone or tablet into the speaker like normal. It's a very rugged and portable speaker that is also water resistant (IPX5). This speaker has a 1400mAh battery which boasts 12 hours of wireless play time. I've been using it off and on since I received it, and it's lasted me about 2 days on a charge. In addition to it being waterproof, and rugged, you can also charge your phone or tablet from the speaker while you're listening to your favorite tunes.

Despite it being rugged, it's actually not a bad looking speaker. It also has some pretty good audio coming out of it. On the front you've got your speaker grill which there is also an LED light that flashes inside of it. then on the back you've got all your ports. There's Audio In, MicroUSB input, USB output, a reset button and a button to check on the battery. On the top, you've got four buttons. Power and Bluetooth on the right side, with volume up and down on the left. The volume buttons also work as a skip and repeat button if you press and hold. On the rest of the speaker there isn't much else. The model I have is black and orange which looks pretty nice.

Like I said in the beginning of this review, the speaker does have a 1400mAh battery which lasts me about 2 days, unless I'm using it all day then its around 10-12 hours. The audio it outputs sounds just as good as if you had headphones or earbuds on. I've also dropped it, and no physical damage happened to the speaker. So yes, it passed a drop test!

Where Can I get it?

Braven has this speaker on their website. They are available in both Blue and Black. Personally, I think the blue one looks better. They cost about $180 each before shipping. So they are quite expensive. But if you're looking for a speaker you can use while camping, or working like at a construction site, this is a good one to get since it's almost indestructible.

Final Thoughts

Whether you should spend $180 on this speaker depends on your use case. But it is definitely worth the price. I can't tell you how many speakers I have killed by spilling water on them or dropping them. It's great to have a speaker that can take both of those beatings and play music wirelessly, as well as take calls.
