Android How To: Use Email on your Android Phone or Tablet


One of the other main functions of a smartphone, is the ability to send email. Now we've already gone over how to use the Gmail app, but what if you have a Yahoo!, Hotmail, or another email account? Then you'll have to use the stock email app, or a third-party one from the Play Store, such as K-9 Mail.

Setting up your Email

1. Go into Settings


2. Tap "Add Account"

3. Depending on your account type, you'll want to choose either "Corporate" or "Email".


4. Next, type in your email address and password

5. Android will then attempt to find the settings for that email server


6. Check over the settings, and hit next. If everything works out, you should see this screen:

7. Change those settings to your liking, then hit next.


8. Enter a name for that account if you want and hit finish.


You can change your notification settings by:

1. Going into the Email app

2. Tapping the menu button

3. Next, tap on your email address


4. Scroll down to the bottom where it says "Notification Settings" and change those to your liking.

Add Bcc/cc: Compose > Menu button > Add Cc/Bcc


Attach Files: Compose > Menu button > Attach file

Save as draft: Compose > Menu button > Save draft

Switching email addresses: Tap your email address at the top, then select the one you want to send as.

Send email: Tap the arrow in the top right-hand corner.

Other Tips & Tricks

Deleting a Message: Email > Select message(s) > Delete icon in bottom left corner.

Change your Signature: Settings > [[email protected]] > Signature

Search for emails: Tap the magnifying glass next to the compose icon, and enter your search.
