Ingress: Regarding those Decaying Links and Fields…

December 16, 2012 - Written By Alexander Maxham

We finally have an answer from Niantic Labs regarding all the links and fields that were decaying on Friday. Bringing the MU’s from around 25-26 million per faction to 2 million per faction. Niantic also answered questions about XMP and faction changes on the support group on Google Groups. Here’s their response:

There are several questions in this thread.  I will do my best to address them.

1. We had an XMP bug that impacted control fields.  We have fixed that bug but NIAOPS had to ensure all impacted control fields were reset.  This process has created the decay you are seeing in the Comm.

2.  There seems to be a new issue being reported regarding XMP damage accuracy.  I will look in to this and report back.

3.  If one of your teammates changes allegiances (requests a faction change), you may see NIAOPSDAEMONX destroying entities. Do not be alarmed, all traitor activity must be wiped. Some of your related entities may be destroyed in the process, but it is for your own good and the security of your faction.

So it does look like there’s an XMP bug in the game right now. And as far as faction changes, that explains partially why so many links were dying. But I still don’t believe that many people changed factions on Thursday/Friday. But who knows, maybe I’m wrong.

On another note, the Resistance now has over 728 billion mind units. So perhaps this is all part of the game? Who knows. It’s getting kinda weird, especially after Enlightened hit over 600 billion MU’s twice last week. But we’ll keep an eye on it and see what happens.
