21 Days of Android Gifts: Day 6: Motorola Keyboard with Trackpad

When it comes to tablets, there are a few things that you can do with them if you need to get some work done. However, the biggest drawback for a lot of people – myself included – is that the onscreen keyboard just isn't good enough. I've gotten up to a good pace when it comes to typing on a tablet but, it still doesn't beat having a physical keyboard in front of me. It might help if I weren't the freak with a mechanical keyboard but, there's no denying physical hardware is nicer than a touch keyboard. This is why tablets aren't all that good for anything other than YouTube, games, fun with apps and the occasional message. With a decent keyboard though, you can get halfway towards a decent experience.

Add a trackpad to the whole affair and you can turn your tablet into a fun little desktop – provided you have a stand for it – and you might be able to get some work done. Of course, this only really applies to those that just need a keyboard to get some typing done. Which is pretty great for those like myself, there are some good word processors out for Android now and if all you need to get done on the go is a lot of e-mailing and some typing then carrying around a tablet and keyboard is a little friendlier on your back than a full-blown laptop. I actually owned one of these keyboards – without the trackpad – and as someone who is a very fussy with keyboards I have to say it was a pleasant experience, the keys might not have depressed as much as I would have liked but it was a tactile experience over all – perfect for on the go, certainly.

For folks who have a tablet and would like to get some writing done with it or reply to e-mails a lot quicker then something like this is a really valuable gift. It also works with pretty much any Android tablet running anything above 3.2 and if you're weird, it'll run on your phone as well. It's Bluetooth so that's nice and the battery life isn't really that bad but, it's best to have a spare set with you when you're out and about.

Former Editor-in-Chief

For years now I've had a heavy interest in technology, growing up with 8-bit computers and gaming consoles has fed into an addiction to everything that beeps. Android saved me from the boredom of iOS years ago and I love watching the platform grow. As an avid reader and writer nothing pleases me more than to write about the exciting world of Android, Google and mobile technology as a whole.
