21 Days of Android Gifts: Day #20: Incipio Feather for Nexus 7

For a long time now, people have thought of Android on tablets as a sort of "dead-end" platform well, the naysayers had quite the tablet to deal with in the Nexus 7. Not only did Android grow a more accommodating UI for smaller tablets in Android 4.1 but, Google got the price spot-on with the new tablet. Since it launched at the end of the Summer these things have been selling like hotcakes and we're pretty certain a lot of the world is going to be waking up to a Nexus 7 come the 25th. With a stunning display and a powerful quad-core chip the Nexus 7 is perhaps the best value for money in the tablet market right now. Let's not forget that we're still talking about a Nexus here as well, which paves the way for regular updates and a pure Android experience.

The Nexus 7 is certainly a great piece of hardware and it shows of Android 4.1 and now 4.2, really well. If there's on thing that Google and ASUS could have done better is try and build the thing to last a little better. With the first shipments of the tablet there were reports of screen damage, loose fittings and if you do a quick search on eBay a lot of what you'll find for "Nexus 7" are devices that are damaged or don't quite work properly.

An important thing to do when you buy a tablet like this or give it as a gift is to make sure there is some sort of protection for it as well. It's all fine and good having a nice and shiny tablet but, with little to no protection it's not going to stand up to drops and knocks very well at all. We don't all feel the need to encase out devices in military grade protection and, for a lot of users it's not even needed. All of this leads me to today's gift idea, it's one of our last and it's the Incipio Feather case for the Nexus 7. It's not so much a case as it is a back cover but, if you have a screen protector or you'll unlikely to be careless with it then something like this is ideal. It'd make a great stocking present and while it's too late to order offline, you might be able to get one in a last minute shop but, if not, it'll make for a nice surprise in the mail after the holidays are over.

If you're still looking for gifts or you just want to buy something for yourself then you can always take a look at our buying guide.
