Android 4.2 OTA Update Hitting Nexus 7 Now

Yesterday was a quite a day for the world of Nexus devices, with a number of them getting a shakey introduction into the world and some of them getting a glimpse of Android 4.2 and a couple of devices getting their marching orders. While the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus have been available for quite some time now it was a wonder when they would receive the update to the 4.2 Version of Jelly Bean and it looked like yesterday was the day but, this was for manual updates only. If you're type of person that likes to keep things clean and stock then you'll have more than likely stayed away from this method and we can't blame, sometimes stuff can go wrong.

Your waiting seems to have  been rewarded with the Android 4.2 update rolling out to Nexus 7s over the air, making it a lot easier to get the update and should result in fewer headaches for you all. While 4.2 is still being dubbed as a maintenance release there are a number of new features added to this latest release of Android, such as the following:

  • Quick Actions pulldown for turning on/off WiFi, Bluetooth etc
  • Photo Sphere
  • Daydream Mode
  • Speed improvements
  • Miracast screen mirroring to compataible displays or dongles

Let us know if you've gotten the update over the air and if everything went smoothly or not, we're interested to see how this roll out goes!

Update: If you are having any issues with Google play after the update , Simply remove the Google account, reboot, and then re-enter your Google account. Takes a couple of minutes, but fixes the issue instantly.

For years now I've had a heavy interest in technology, growing up with 8-bit computers and gaming consoles has fed into an addiction to everything that beeps. Android saved me from the boredom of iOS years ago and I love watching the platform grow. As an avid reader and writer nothing pleases me more than to write about the exciting world of Android, Google and mobile technology as a whole.
