Android has seen some tough days for the past few weeks in terms of bans on several Samsung devices and over a Billion Dollar in penalties but that won't stop the revolution or the growth of the OS. Google's product management director for Android, Hugo Barra has announced on his Google+ page that Android has passed the 500 million install mark today. Yes, you read it right, there are now nearly 500 million devices running Android out there even though it seems unbelievable.
Eric Schmidt previously stated that there are 1.3 million Android devices being activated on daily basis and compared to that the 500 million milestone seems nothing. 1.3 million daily activations mean that Android is growing like crazy despite all those attempts by Apple to cut the OS in various countries. With this rate Android will reach 600 million devices by the end of 2012 and 1 billion by the end of 2013. Long live Android.
This figure is a big achievement for all Android fans and Google itself, we should all be celebrating the success of our favorite OS. Let the drinking begin, Cheers!
