The long awaited Nexus tablet, Google's first and very own tablet, is getting even closer to being launched and with us getting more details about the tablet that's supposed to feature a quad core processor, 7 inch display, all for around $200. Thanks to Amazon's Kindle Fire, a 7 inch tablet, it's shown manufacturers that there's room, a lot of room actually, for an adequately powered 7 inch tablet, long as it's priced right.
While the rumors abound for a 7 inch iPad and many are still questioning if it's even a possibility, the Nexus tablet has been inevitable for many months. Now, according to a rumor from DigiTimes, the Nexus tablet is already shipping and will be available to buy sometime in July. Google I/O, Google's very own conference for developers and all things Android, will be taking place June 27th-29th which is when we're supposed to be getting all the details about the tablet.
The actual price? They're saying $199 which would be on par with the Kindle Fire and could even knock it off its thrown as the number one selling 7 inch tablet. Total shipments of the Nexus tablet are expected to be at least three Million units through the second half of the year. If it lives up to the hype, Google could definitely see that number go much higher. One thing that could be a big factor however is the fact that it is said to feature only a wifi version for the time being.
Again, this is a rumor so we'll see come Google I/O next week. The idea of a quad core tablet priced at $199 is very exciting and goes to show just how far tablets have come in recent years. This could just be the edge that Android needs in making a bigger dent in Apple's iPad market share.
