Gingerbread for your Moto DROID X
Motorola Droid X users rejoice! Your Android OS 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) savior has arrived. Earlier Droid-Life reported that one lucky user received an OTA update that just happened to be a build of Gingerbread. This update was then passed to the proper hacker authorities (P3Droid) who managed to get the file and deduce that it had a new bootloader (which means anyone who values root should hold off on any updates). For you non-rooted Droid X users if you receive the OTA update yourself this could be your lucky day.
What If I Don’t Want To Wait
Well you don’t have to because Droid-Life have also got you covered there. They have listed how to update manually for those of you to desperate to wait.
Few quick notes before I list the method. Firstly it is unknown if this is actually the final Verizon build or not and secondly rooted or not you will need to be running stock 2.3.340 for this to work (If you don’t know what that means I would advise against this).
The method is as follows:
Download this file and drag and drop it onto the root of your SD card
1a. [Update, 12:06 PDT 4/13] Sorry, many of the sites with the file have been taken down. Here are two that are working as of noon PDT.
i. mirror from MikeinRichmond – http://db.tt/zvgK4vM
ii. mirror from leapedyears MEGAUPLOAD – The leading online storage and file delivery service
2. Rename to update.zip
3. Completely turn your phone off
4. Boot into recovery by pressing the home and power buttons, then pressing search when the green triangle shows up.
5. Choose the option to install update.zip using the volume keys to navigate the options
6. Now your phone will update to the latest version of Android. And Blur.
