If you're someone who's into technology and phones and wireless toys as much as I am, you're familiar with the fact that AT&T is attempting to purchase T-Mobile USA (pending government approval). Now, for all you TMo users, you must be wondering, "Will I have to get a new phone and/or plan when/if this deal is finalized?" The answer is basically, "Yes." Yahoo News is reporting, via Associated Press, that AT&T has come forward in saying, that if the deal goes through, AT&T will be reworking how TMo's cell towers work, and this would render current TMo 3G phones 3G-less. Customers will have to acquire new phones that utilize AT&Ts 3G bands, but it was not reported how or if AT&T will help TMo customers with the change.
If they don't help customers change, I can't imagine the kind of fallout they would have from negative customer reaction. But, only time will tell as this process will take a few years to complete, if the deal is even allowed by the FCC.
Do you guys think AT&T will help out? And if so, how much?
