Sony Ericsson's Playstation Phone Pose's For Some Photos, May Be Here For Christmas

That's right folks.  The PlayStation Phone that has been rumored, shot down by Sony, and so on, has surfaced again.  This time with a bunch of photos and a possible late 2010 or early 2011 release.  I would lean more towards the 2011 since testers have called the prototype you see here "kinda buggy".  Of course there is quite a bit of time between now and the holiday season, It could be done.

So, what does it have under the hood?  I'm glad you asked, we are looking at a 3.7 to 4.1 inch screen, housing a 1GHz 2Nd Gen. Snapdragon processor, 512 MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and 5MP camera with flash.  The (MSM8655) Snapdragon processor is one of HTC's favorites, being the power plant in their Desire HD, myTouch 4G/HD, and the rumored Incredible HD.  HTC likes to use a little more RAM then Sony, bumping theirs to 768 MB.  Sony has also dropped the Memory Stick in favor of the wildly popular Micro SD card. *win*

The prototype sown is runnig android 2.2(Froyo) but it is reported to ship with Android 2.3(Gingerbread).  Along with the standard Android market there will be a dedicated Sony Marketplace with more games then you can shake a stick at.  With the classic shoulder buttons and the recent Android gaming movement, hard core gamers should be ecstatic.

So, which carrier will Sony go with?  Well the "No SIM Card" plastered on the screen narrows the field a little.  Of course AT&T is the only carrier that snapped up the Xperia X10, and both companies keep their headquarters in Atlanta, so that is were my money is.  I guess the waiting game is on, yet again. Remember, there is still time to completely revamp this phone.  Maybe loose the Snapdragon processor in favor of next years graphic god dual core Nvidia Tegra 2.  Either way, this will introduce Android to a whole new market, One that Apple and IPhone will never see.  Thanks Engadget for the pics. :)
