Verizon is updating Droid 2 to version 2.3 - but hold your horses, it's not Gingerbread, but only a software update that contains some bug fixes and improvements such as for battery life, the proximity sensor, faster GPS location services, and allowing users to add a photo from the Gallery to use as contact photo.
Here is the full list of improvements:

+ Edit text messages after you've inserted a video file.
+ Improved audio sound during recorded video playbacks.
+ Stream Guided Tour videos on device in Help Center application
+ Faster location tracking during GPS navigation.
+ New ability to add pictures from your Gallery to a contact.
+ Export all your contacts to the SD card.
