Optimus Pad Shows Up. Will Be the Slimmest Tablet

Of course, LG couldn't be left too far behind its bigger brother Samsung in the Android tablet market, so they are unveiling an upcoming 7" tablet of their own: the Optimus Pad. They say it will be slimmer and lighter than any other tablet out there, which should be big benefits.

I don't think the 700 grams weight that most tablets have now is the right weight for a tablet. I'm sure they can't improve on this too soon, but the ideal weight should be the one where you practically forget you're holding the tablet in your hand. It should have less than half the weight most of them have now. But maybe we can get there in a few more years.

LG also says that it will feature many "firsts". That sounds like great news. I was hoping LG would start thinking for themselves once in a while, rather than copy Samsung all the time.

They might show this tablet at IFA, so expect to see it real soon.
