Rogers announced another line of Android phone in the Motorola FlipOut today. Geared towards students, 40$ per month will get you the following
- Unlimited My4 calling
- Unlimited texting
- Unlimited Blackberry messager (with the blackberry curve)
- Unlimited Picture and Video Messaging
- Unlimited Social Networking on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace
- Unlimited Talk Evenings and weekends.
This phone does not include a data plan per say, it is more of a feature phone that allows you do social networking. The only price point that has been mentioned is $29.99 for the phone with a 3-year contract. The FlipOut specs are as follows
- Android OS 2.1
- 2.8 inch QWERTY
- 3 megapixel camera with video capabilities
As we have seen with other Motorola phones running MOTOBLUR, the update to Froyo 2.2 may take some additional time given the customizations that this iteration of the OS supports. The FlipOut is looking to occupy that space between a dumb phone and a smart phone. The Microsoft Kin tried to take over this market earlier this year with disastrous results. However, their price point is upwards of $150. $29.99 is a very accessible price for most students and may be an attractive alternative to a true smart phone.
