Radar Now, Lightning Fast Weather Imaging: Android App Review

App Name: Radar Now by USNaviguide LLC.

Description: Radar Now is an Android mobile application that displays an animated weather radar image on a map with the user's position. Radar Now performs one function – rapid display of the local NWS Dopplar radar, requiring no configuration or user input to operate.

How it works:  Radar Now uses its location services and gives you the weather with decent animations. You also get the humidity, barometer, dew point and wind in your local area. You can use the touchscreen to pan and check out the different areas around you.

Opinion: I was in the car recently and I loaded this app and it was displaying an area that was thirty miles way; I thought it was broken. When I settled and ran it again, it gave me the location closest to me. This app is simple yet effective and does it all on the server side. Your options are to refresh or close the app. The zoom feature needs some improvement since it doesn't go in far enough.

  • Speed (4/5) – Very fast.
  • Features (3/5) –   Minimal and fits this app well.
  • Theme (4/5) – is very refreshing and it will not take long to get the information you need.
  • Overall (3/5) – The animation is appreciated along with the weather details on the bottom half of the screen.

Pro: Location fix is very accurate.

Cons: Needs more zoom.

Conclusion: This is a very lean app that packs a punch!
