Video: LG G5 Has A Thick Layer Of Plastic On Top Of Aluminum

The LG G5 has been announced back in February during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The G5 is LG’s all-new flagship, and quite a different approach to design compared to its predecessors. The LG G5 is a semi-modular smartphone, its bottom ‘chin’ is removable and gives you access to the battery. LG has also introduced several modules for this smartphone (also called ‘LG Friends’), which can be inserted instead of the ‘chin’ that comes with the phone.

That being said, LG G5 has started selling in South Korea yesterday, and its sales begin in the US today, while the rest of the world will have to wait a bit longer, though the G5 is expected to be released in other areas before the end of this month. We already have tons of coverage on the LG G5 on the site, and now we can take a look at the device’s teardown as well. This teardown comes from YouTube, a channel called ‘JerryRigEverything’ decided to take a closer look at the phone, and has revealed something really interesting. The internal components are where they should be, and everything is present and accounted for, but the source did find something else that is really interesting. He took a knife to the back of the G5, and basically revealed that the G5’s build is not all metal, not even close. While he was scratching the back he noticed that there’s a whole lot of plastic in there, which basically means the plastic is filled with metal on the inside, it will take you a while to get to metal which lays beneath a thick layer of plastic. This was certainly not expected, but it is what it is. In any case, the full video teardown is embedded below this article, in case you’d like to check it out.

The LG G5 is a handset with a 5.3-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display which ships with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, along with the Adreno 530 GPU. The 16MP and 8MP cameras are placed on the back of the G5, and an 8-megapixel snapper can be found up front. The 2,800mAh battery comes with the device, and is replaceable, while Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on the G5 with LG’s UX 5.0 available on top of Google’s OS.
