Huawei has more or less confirmed that they will introduce the Huawei P9 on April 6th in London. The company has released several teasers in which they not only confirmed that the P9 is coming, but that it will sport a dual camera setup, chamfered edges, all-metal build, and that it will feature Leica’s imaging technology. That being said, Huawei has finally unveiled their new flagship in London, well, the company has actually unveiled two P9 devices, but the P9 Plus will be covered separately.
The Huawei P9 does resemble its predecessor, the Huawei P8, but unlike that device, this phone sports two 12-megapixel snappers on its back, courtesy of Leica. These cameras are quite noticeable, and yet they don’t look all that bad at all, Huawei did a great job with the design here. The P9 is a well designed, metal unibody handset, which sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and the aforementioned chamfered edges. This device sports a 5.2-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) 2.5D curved display, along with 3GB / 4GB of RAM, and 32GB / 64GB of internal storage. The 3GB RAM variant will ship with 32GB of internal storage, while the higher-end 4GB RAM model will come with 4GB of RAM on the inside. The device is fueled by the HiSilicon Kirin 955 64-bit octa-core processor, which is Huawei’s home-baked CPU. The 8-megapixel snapper is placed on the front side of this smartphone, and a 3,000mAh battery is also a part of this package, and it is not removable. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed here with Huawei’s very own Emotion UI (EMUI) 4.1 available on top of Google’s operating system. The phone measures 145 x 70.9 x 6.95mm, while it weighs 144 grams.
“Huawei is excited to give P9 users the best smartphone photography experience by leveraging the unrivalled capabilities of Leica, the leader in the world of imaging for more than 100 years. Consumers around the world use their smartphones to take billions of pictures each year, making photography critical to user experience. P9 users can now capture images with unmatched clarity, richness and authenticity, with a masterfully designed and powerful smartphone that looks and feels incredible,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group. The two Huawei P9 versions (3GB and 4GB ones) will cost €599 and €649, respectively, and are going to become available starting April 16th. The Huawei P9 will be available in Ceramic White, Haze Gold, Prestige Gold, Rose Gold, Silver and Titanium Grey color options. The phone will launch in 29 countries, in Europe, China, UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The company did not say anything about the phone’s availability in the U.S. though.
