Download Android N Developer Preview Factory Images

March 9, 2016 - Written By John Anon

Early today there were some rumblings that Google might be planning on releasing the next evolution of the Android operating system, Android N today. At the time the information was based on what seemed to be a leak which occurred highlighting various aspects of Android N. Well, the rumblings were right as Google has announced that Android N is now available to download.

Of course, this is not Android N in its final state and instead is the first developer preview of Android N. These previews come out each year in advance of the finished product and allow for developers (and those interested in an early peak) to get to grips with the new operating system. Although, this year, it looks as though Google is taking a more cautious approach as they have released these factory images much earlier than usual. The reason given for this is that Google states this will allow them to more effectively incorporate the feedback from developers before the final version is released. Following the main announcement, Google has now released the various Nexus factory images for Android N.

As such, if you own either the Nexus 6P, the Nexus 5X, the Nexus 6, the Nexus 9, the Nexus Player or the Pixel C, it now looks as though your factor images are ready to download and push to your device. Of course, you would be wise to make sure that you backup everything on your device, as installing Android N will effectively erase the device as well as all the content on it. Not to mention, it does also need to be kept in mind that these images are only “preview” versions and as such, many things might not be working great or could be incomplete. As a result, this is unlikely to be a good option to run on your device for daily use. That all said, for those interested in grabbing the latest factory image for their Nexus device, click on the link below for your specific device and this will start the automatic download. Also keep in mind some of the files are rather big though. Enjoy.
