Booyah Brings Hassle-Free WhatsApp Video Calls to Android

March 1, 2016 - Written By Alexander Maxham

WhatsApp is one of the largest messaging apps around, in fact it is the largest right now. With over a billion active users. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to see apps coming out that work with WhatsApp, similar to how Booyah works. Booyah is created by Rounds, and allows you to quickly do a video chat with any of your WhatsApp friends on Android or iOS. The iOS version launched about a month prior to the Android launch of today. Some of the main selling points for Booyah include no registration or login. Booyah also doesn’t have any friend requests, no waiting in line, and best of all, there’s no hassle at all. As the company states, “it’s simply video calling made easy”.

Within the app, there are proprietary APIs used that ensures that the highest quality of video is used for doing group video calls. The experience with Booyah is pretty good, and you’d never know if the person you’re talking to is using iOS or Android. It’s a great application that makes it easy to start up a video chat with any of your WhatsApp friends or contacts. Not to mention the fact that Booyah makes it super simple to start up a video chat, as there are no barriers or layers here. Just tap a button and you’re all set. There’s nothing else needed to be done, truly making it “hassle free”. Booyah also mentions that this uses asynchronized communication which allows users to join in when they want, unlike the old-fashioned mechanism of synchronized invitations for chats or calls.

Booyah is here to be a companion to WhatsApp. They also mention that the app is not limited to WhatsApp users, in fact users that don’t use WhatsApp will see a “Share Intent” pop up which allows them to connect to other users through another major platform. Included are Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and more! Booyah doesn’t collect any personal information from their users, and whatever is done on Booyah is not shared back to WhatsApp nor is it saved to the device you are using. Booyah can facilitate group video calls of up to 12 people, and these are HD (aka 720p). You can pick up Booyah from the Google Play Store today, it’s completely free.
