Although the official Twitter application has come a long ways over the years and to many is now the best Twitter experience on Android, there are still a handful of popular third-party Twitter clients that Android users have access to, like Talon for example, which has just recently gone through an update bringing it forward to version 4.0.0. With some focus on tablets and some focus on making the user experience a faster one, there are quite a few changes and improvements to the app. In short, this is no small update and there is plenty to look forward to if you’re a Talon user.
Included in the update is support for tablets so users can consume more from their feeds, as tablet users can now view two timelines side by side instead of just viewing one timeline before moving on to another, and even though there was no real extra space before this update, the ability to view two timelines at once makes better use of the larger tablet displays. This capability is only available if the tablet is being held in landscape mode. Also included in this update is the ability to initiate quick actions in Tweets without having to navigate away from the timeline or expand the tweet itself. You can view what this looks like in the image displayed in the gallery below.
Talon users on tablets will also notice that the layouts will have a big improvement over previous versions of the app in addition to the new double timeline view. Out of all of the changes, this is something which Luke Klinker, the app’s creator, describes as the thing he is personally most excited about and that they have been working quite well for him during his own use of Talon to view his Twitter account. If you’re someone who has more than one Twitter account, update 4.0.0 also includes a faster account switching experience, a few more activity transitions for users on Android Lollipop and Android Marshmallow, and the navigation bar has received an update style to give things a more visually appealing look. The update is already live on the Play Store for existing and new Talon users.
