Nintendo’s announcement last year to partner up with mobile publisher DeNA took the gaming world by storm, simply because Nintendo had said numerous times that they would not be developing mobile games. Eventually that status changed, and it’s now nearing the launch of Nintendo’s first mobile offering called Miitomo, a mobile social application rather than an actual game you can play, which allows users to create their own Mii likenesses on their smartphones and use them to interact with their friends. It’s already been announced that the launch of Miitomo would happen in March, and now the preregistration is open to anyone who is interested in the app. Nintendo is also working on their second mobile game which they state will “adopt a familiar character.”
At first, it was previously thought that the Miitomo launch in March would be limited to the UK and Ireland, as Nintendo’s earlier announcement about the launch date and preregistration date mentioned nothing about other regions. It did mention that the 17th of February would be the day that preregistration opens up however so this particular detail may not be much of a surprise to some. It seems preregistration is open to anyone, including those in the U.S. and other regions, which you can access by going to the Miitomo landing page at miitomo.com.
As stated in the earlier announcement from February 3rd, those who preregister will get special rewards so if you’re even remotely interested in using Nintendo’s first official mobile app it’s worth it to preregister. There is still no hard date for when Miitomo will launch next month, but it is happening in March so the launch is not too far off. Preregistering will also alert users early to when the app is available so they’ll be among the first to enjoy the new experience. The rewards will only be given to those who sign up for a new Nintendo account before the official launch, and the rewards come in the form of platinum points for the brand-new “my Nintendo rewards program” that launches alongside Miitomo next month. Users will be able to gather in-app currency called Miitomo coins as they use the app and travel around interacting with other Miitomo users, and Miitomo coins can be used to purchase things like outfits and other items from the in-app shop. Miitomo will be a free title and will also have in-app purchases where users can buy more Miitomo coins if they choose to do so. The app will also carry a feature called Miifoto which allows users to merge their Mii characters with pictures from the gallery or the camera, as well as create fun images using the Mii characters, stamps and stickers, and any Miifoto images can be posted up to social feeds like Facebook and Twitter.
