Lonely Planet Launches ‘Guides’ on Android

When most of us travel, whether it be for work or for pleasure, we like to go sight seeing and see what the city we’re in has to offer. Although for many of us, we don’t know what the city has to offer or where everything is. So having a tour guide is definitely helpful. And Lonely Planet has basically just launched a tour guide for Android that works in a slew of cities around the world. It’s simply called ‘Guides by Lonely Planet’. It’s completely free, without a single in-app purchase – sounds good right? Lonely Planet is known for their expertise in being the ultimate travel companion, so definitely nice to see this on Android now.

Guides by Lonely Planet is available for Amsterdam, Bangkok, Barcelona, Beijing, Berlin, Boston, Budapest, Buenos Aries, Cape Town, Chicago, Dubai, Dublin, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Kyoto, London, Madrid, Montr©al, Moscow, New Orleans, New York City, Paris, Prague, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, San Francisco, Seattle, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, St. Petersburg, Sydney, Tokyo, Vancouver, Venice, Vienna, and Washington, DC. While the app is actually available everywhere, these are cities that are supported with Guides for each one. Lonely Planet says that plenty more cities will be added in the near future as well.

The app supports many cities, which we already mentioned, and all of these are curated by Lonely Planet’s travel writers. These are people who “live and breathe” the city you are in and they also professionally review every place that is listed in the guides for each city. In addition, the app also includes offline maps. It’s impossible to state how important offline maps are, especially when you’re in another country where roaming data can be pretty expensive, not to mention slow. There are also tips and top experiences included with each guide for each city. Lonely Planet has built Guides to help maximize your trip. Seeing as you won’t get to spend forever in Dubai, even though many of us would love too. Another nifty feature included here is the ability to save places via bookmarking. Always important, especially if you’re going to be looking for somewhere to eat later on. Because we all have to eat.

As mentioned earlier, the app is free and will definitely be a great companion on your next trip. Just be sure to schedule some time to enjoy the city and see what it has to offer.
