$100 Discount On Samsung’s Gear S2 Smartwatch Till Jan 20th

January 18, 2016 - Written By Kishalaya Kundu

Last year, Samsung launched its first ever smartwatch with a circular watch face. The device, called the Gear S2, can now be bought for a discounted price of $199 on Adorama.com. While the original listing price of the Gear S2 is $299, the website is offering a $50 flat discount with the coupon code 50OFFJAN. On top of that, there’s a $50 MIR (Mail-in-Rebate) offer, which will further reduce the price of the gadget to $199 on the aforementioned website. The offer, however, is a time-limited one, and will only be applicable till the 20th of this month. It isn’t immediately evident if other retailers like Amazon or Best Buy are offering any similar discounts currently on Samsung’s latest smartwatch.

The Gear S2 range of smartwatches was launched by the South Korean consumer electronics giant back in August last year. The device came in three different versions – the Gear S2, the Gear S2 Classic and the Gear S2 3G. While two of those devices, the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 Classic, come with only Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, the third version, Gear S2 3G, comes with 3G internet connectivity, as evident from the name itself. While the variant with cellular connectivity was meant only for select markets around the world, the other two versions saw a wider launch. The devices run on Tizen OS rather than on Android Wear, and come with IP68 Certification, which indicates water and dust resistance.

Coming to some of the hardware specifications of the latest Gear smartwatches, the devices come in three different models as already mentioned. All the variants come with circular Super AMOLED displays that measure 1.2-inch in diameter, resulting in a pixel density of 302 dpi. The Gear S2 of course, is Samsung’s very first smartwatch with a circular display, and while the 3G version is powered by the Snapdragon 400 SoC from Qualcomm, the other two come with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 3250 under the hood. Both chipsets however, come with an integrated 1 GHz dual-core processor each. The Gear S2 variants come with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, and feature rotating bezels along with a number of sensors including an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a PPG (heart rate monitor), an ambient light sensor and a barometer.
