When Android Wear first launched on the G Watch and Samsung Gear Live, there was no official way of getting watch faces on to the platform. Of course, this being Android people found a workaround and it wasn’t long before we started seeing some pretty impressive watch faces for the new platform. Fast forward a little bit, and Google bought the official Watch Face API to Android Wear with their Lollipop update to the platform. Google has improved on that with the introduction of interactive watch faces and more. Since then, Google has partnered with all sorts of different brands to bring their designs to Android Wear, and today they’re offering up the latest batch, just in time for all those new watches to be unwrapped not he 25th.
Over on the official Android Blog, Google have detailed the new watch faces that are available in the Play Store right now. These include designs from ASICS, Adidas, Ted Baker, Nicole Miller, Vivienne Tam, Mango, Zoe Jordan, Melissa Joy Morgan and Harajuka Kawaii! The majority of these new watch faces are more about the design side of things, but the Mango and Zoe Jordan faces in particular are indeed quite useable and offer a fresh take on getting the time on your wrist. While it doesn’t appear that these are interactive affairs, many of them do come with different settings that can be changed over on your watch or in the Android Wear app.
There’s a new selection of nine watch faces to choose from in today’s update, and while that’s noting extraordinary, it is nice to see that Google is continuing with getting new design houses and such to contribute to the platform. With the likes of Tag Heur and Fossil now offering Android Wear smartwatches as well it wouldn’t surprise us if more design houses and fashion brands start to take Android Wear a lot more seriously as we head into 2016. Those looking for a fresh watch face can take a look at all the different designs in the gallery below, and hit up the new Play Store section here to install them not heir phone, and subsequently their watches.
