Samsung’s Soundcamp App Can Mix & Create New Songs

November 2, 2015 - Written By Diego Macias

Samsung often includes a bunch of their own apps on their phones and now they have created a new app for music fans who want to have DJ capabilities on their mobile devices. It’s called Soundcamp and it is a DAW and MIDI sequencer application, which includes some virtual instruments like drums, keyboards and sound effects can be applied to audio recordings. Users can also connect the app and record from third-party applications, giving users more flexibility with their own creations. Plus, the app is designed to be easy to use, so not only professionals will benefit from it.

Soundcamp features Multitrack View, which lets users record up to eight tracks in MIDI or stereo audio, so after recording their tunes with the musical instruments, users can add up to five additional components to make them sound richer. MIDI Editor View will let more advanced users edit sounds in a PC-level interface and Mixer View is the screen that can be used to combine, route or change the levels and dynamics of the audio signals in an interface, resembling mixing consoles used in recording studios.

Since more people are creating their own music, Samsung has added two advanced editing tools to this app. The first one is called Looper, and it lets users create loops based on short segments of songs, which can be repeated along their creation. They get to choose from 250 loops from Loopmasters or they can download loop kit extensions to create their tracks in more styles and include them in their sources. This function features a panel to control many effects and enhance live performances, plus, the Galaxy Gear app can control some of the effects and loop arrangements with gestures from a smartwatch. The second tool is called Sampler, and it allows users to import or record sounds from many sources and convert them so they can be treated as a musical instrument. This way, they can use those portions of sounds into another song.

Some of the compatible third-party apps include Unique synthesizer and WOW2 filter, Phase84 phase synthesizer is also compatible as well as iLectric Piano and iGrand Piano. Soundcamp is available for the Galaxy S6 Edge+, S6 Edge, S6, S5, Note 5, Note 4, Note Edge, Tab S2, Tab S and the Galaxy View. It can be downloaded from Galaxy Apps or the Google Play Store.
