MediaTek Helio X30 SoC Specifications Surface

November 12, 2015 - Written By Kristijan Lucic

MediaTek was once manufacturing only low-end SoCs for mobile devices, but that’s not the case anymore. This Taiwan-based company has introduced a number of really compelling, and yet affordable SoCs in 2015, and the latest one is Helio X20. MediaTek’s deca-core SoC is right around the corner, we can expect first Helio X20-powered smartphones to launch in the coming months. Interesting enough, a Helio X30 rumor popped up quite recently saying that the chip will arrive in H2 2016, and now another such rumor popped up sharing alleged Helio X30 details, read on.

According to the leaked info, the Heilo X30 SoC will actually sport a similar cluster design as its predecessor. The leaked info says that it will feature quad-core Cortex A72 cores running at 2.5GHz, dual-core Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, dual-core Cortex A53 cores set at 1.5GHz, and dual-core Cortex A35 cores running at 1.0GHz. So, as you can see, this SoC is also expected to sport ten cores, just like the Helio X20. This is actually rather interesting considering SoC OEMs seem to be reducing a number of cores they include in their SoC, while MediaTek not only increased that number to 10 cores, but intends to stick to their choice.

The Snapdragon 820, for comparisons sake, sports ‘only’ four cores, while Apple’s A9X SoC has ‘only’ two cores. As previously mentioned, first Helio X20-powered devices will be available soon, and then we’ll be able to see how powerful this SoC truly is. The Helio X20 processor will have tough competition out in the market though, Snapdragon 820 will be available soon as well, and same can be said about Samsung’s Exynos 8890 SoC. Huawei has released their Kirin 950 processor recently as well, and that SoC basically destroyed every other chip out there when benchmarks are concerned.

So, to wrap this up, the Helio X30 details have surfaced, but it remains to be seen how accurate are these. That SoC won’t launch before the second half of next year, so we still have plenty of time before that happens. We’ll make sure to let you know if any additional Helio X30 info surfaces, stay tuned.
