OnePlus Promises 60-Minute Delivery In Bengaluru, India

October 8, 2015 - Written By Kishalaya Kundu

Smartphone startup OnePlus is known as much for its premium phones at mid-range pricing, as for its sometimes gimmicky and controversial, but always high-impact, yet low-cost promotional schemes and marketing ploys. The Chinese company, which is headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, has now come up with yet another attention-grabbing promotion for its OnePlus One smartphone, which was its 2014 flagship, but is still robust enough to do duty as a 2015 mid-ranger. According to latest reports carried by multiple news outlets in India, Oneplus has apparently tied up with a Bengaluru-based last-mile logistics company called Blowhorn, to deliver the smartphones within just an hour of an order being placed for the same. Failure to deliver within the stipulated timeframe would mean the user would get the device for the low, low price of free! The scheme has already gone live as of Thursday, but it’s worth noting that the offer is only valid for the OnePlus One and not the company’s latest flagship, the OnePlus 2.

Residents of Bengaluru who want to take advantage of the offer, will need to order the phone via the Blowhorn Android app, which is available for download from the Google Play Store. As for the promotional scheme, there are of course multiple caveats, but the fact still remains that this particular model of ‘within this time-frame or free’ is normally only associated with pizza deliveries from multinational pizza chains like Domino’s and Pizza Hut, but this innovative marketing ploy could very likely be the first time that an electronics company of any description is offering such a delivery guarantee anywhere around the world. Netizens however, as expected, are divided over the offer, as many seem to believe this would encourage rash and negligent driving from the Blowhorn delivery guys, resulting in traffic violations on already chaotic city streets in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vikas Agarwal, General Manager at OnePlus India, said, “Can you ever imagine receiving a smartphone in about the same time as you order a pizza? At OnePlus, we think it’s possible. At OnePlus we always look to challenge the status quo and wow our fans by making the user experience even better. Therefore we are daring ourselves this time to deliver the original flagship – The OnePlus One – to our fans in Bengaluru who wish to own the phone, within the guaranteed 60 minutes or give it away for free”.
