OnePlus seems to stay in the news for good or bad reasons…mostly due to delays and the fact that on their latest flagship, the OnePlus 2, they did not put in NFC capabilities. Rumors and speculation have been swirling around another model from OnePlus and now that speculation has come to an end with the formal announcement of the new OnePlus X. It is decidedly a mid-range device based on today’s flagship specifications. When will this new device reach Canada? And what will it be priced? Are some of the questions we can now answer.
The OnePlus X will be available via their invite system starting November 19 for $329 CAD. The invite system will subside somewhat after a month and then OnePlus will begin offering weekly “open hours.” Although there will be two models produced – the Onyx version is the only model available in Canada. The more expensive, Ceramic version, will be available only to European and Indian markets. The company claims that the OnePlus X is “a love story of aesthetics and a unique, premium material.” The OnePlus X uses a brushed anodized aluminum frame along with the glass “Onyx” backing.

A 32-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz is the brains. It is coupled to 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and expandable another 128GB via a microSD card. The OnePlus X is running Android 5.1.1 with its OxygenOS UI on top…with a promised upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the near future.
The main camera is a 13MP ISOCELL sensor with autofocus, LED flash and an aperture of f/2.2. The front-facing camera (FFC) is a large 8MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture for selfies and video chatting. This dual-SIM OnePlus X has the usual suspects – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, an FM Radio and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer.
