YU is a Micromax-owned, India-based smartphone manufacturer which has released four smartphones thus far, the YU Yureka, YU Yuphoria,, Yu Yureka Plus and YU Yunique. All of these devices are quite capable, and quite affordable at the same time, while they’re powered by Cyanogen OS. All four of these phone have launched earlier this year, and we can say that the Yuphoria and Yunique are entry-level smartphones, while the Yureka and Yureka Plus are a mid-range offerings by this company. That being said, it was just a matter of time before we see a high-end YU-branded smartphone, and it seems like that might happen soon.
The YU Yutopia details have leaked out, and it definitely seems like YU is aiming to compete with the flagship devices this time around. According to this leak from Zauba (India’s import / export website), the Yutopia will sport a 5.2-inch display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card). The device will be fueled by the Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor, and dual-SIM connectivity will also be on board, same can be said about 4G LTE as well. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will come pre-installed on this device, and Cyanogen OS will be available on top of Google’s operating system, as it was the case with all the other YU devices thus far. In addition, if you take a look at the provided image, you’ll get to see the alleged retail packaging of the YU Yutopia.
Now, Zauba’s listing also says that each of the test devices costs around Rs. 20,000 ($303), but keep in mind that this is definitely not the final price point for this phone. You can expect YU Yutopia to be quite affordable, as it was the case with all the other YU-branded devices released thus far, but we still don’t know what will the final price be. If we had to guess, we’d say it will cost somewhere in between $300 and 400$. The company will quite probably release this smartphone before the end of this year, but we still don’t know when exactly. The YU Yutopia will probably be available exclusively in India, as it was the case with previous devices, but it would be nice if YU would find a way to offer the device in additional regions. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, stay tuned for additional information, we’ll report back soon.
