First Helio X20-Powered Handsets Launching Next Month

September 14, 2015 - Written By Kristijan Lucic

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 and MediaTek’s Helio X20 SoCs are quite probably the most anticipated mobile processors at the moment. These two SoCs have been talked about for months at this point, and we’ve already seen tons of leaks and official confirmations of phones which will be powered by these processors. That being said, we’re here to talk more about the Helio X20 SoC, well, the company’s which will use this processor in the coming months that is. Read on.

As you probably already know, HTC is working on a premium device which is expected to launch in the coming weeks. This device is called HTC A9 (Aero), and according to the recently leaked benchmarks, that smartphone will be fueled by the Helio X20 SoC. We’ve also seen some Meizu-related listings which reveal that this China-based company also intends to release a Helio X20-powered smartphone in the near future, and according to some new info, Xiaomi is also preparing to use MediaTek’s most powerful SoC to date.

A report from Taiwan not only claims that Xiaomi is also preparing a Helio X20-powered handset, but that the Helio X20 handsets will start launching next month. According to previously leaked benchmarks, the Helio X20 is a very, very powerful SoC. This processor is based on a 20nm manufacturing process, but as far as sheer power goes, it seems to be on par with Samsung’s Exynos 7420 14nm 64-bit octa-core SoC. Take this info with a grain of salt though, as we all know by now, benchmarks aren’t exactly the best way to determine how well will a processor perform.

The Helio X20 is a deca-core processor, which means it ships with 10 cores. This SoC sports the world’s first Tri-Cluster architecture, and has support for 4G LTE Cat. 6. That’s more or less it. HTC’s A9 handset will quite probably be powered by the Helio X20, and Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 5 flagship might also sport MediaTek’s newest offering. We still don’t know which Meizu-branded handset will sport this SoC because the upcoming Pro 5 flagship will be powered by the Exynos 7420 SoC, It is possible, however, that Meizu intends to release a Helio X20 variants of that smartphone as well, but that’s not that likely. Either way, stay tuned for more info.
