Nexus OTA’s With Stagefright Fix Rolling In

August 10, 2015 - Written By Justin Diaz

There’s been a lot of talk about Stagefright recently, mostly due to the fact that the bug is leaving a large number of Android devices unprotected all the way back to devices running on Gingerbread. While Google had already posted the factory images that included the stagefright fix last week for supported Nexus phones and tablets, the over-the-air updates had yet to start hitting devices. Google then announced that those OTA’s would begin to roll out to devices today and it seems that those OTA’s are heading out to devices right on schedule. Keep in mind that although the OTA’s are starting to be pushed out this doesn’t mean all devices will get them before day’s end.

If you’re worried about that you can download the OTA’s from the links we have listed at the end of this post for your correct device. Currently the only available OTA links are for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6 (seemingly all model variants) as well as the Nexus 10. That leaves out WiFi and LTE variants of both the 2013 Nexus 7 and the Nexus 9 tablets, with no updates coming to the Nexus 7 2012 model as support for that device has stopped. In addition to these OTA links, Google has also posted a new factory image up to the factory image database for Nexus devices.

This new factory image is for the T-Mobile model Nexus 6 and specifically the build LYZ28J which contains the stagefright fix, so those wishing to flash the factory image can do so without waiting for the software to be pushed out over-the-air. Having said that, if you aren’t a developer needing to work with the factory image, it’s likely an easier task to simply download and flash the OTA package, which as we stated is already up and available for the T-Mobile model Nexus 6 as well as the Project Fi, international, Sprint/US Cellular, Verizon and AT&T variants. If you’ve never flashed any software like this before, it’s recommended you simply wait for the update to come through on its own. If you’re already familiar with flashing factory images and OTA packages, feel free to grab anything you need from the links below. Of course, as more new links show up we’ll update the list to include the other remaining supported devices.
