HTC One M9 In EMEA to Get Android 5.1 Shortly

August 3, 2015 - Written By Nick Terry

There are currently a lot of HTC One M9 owners out there with devices not running the latest version of Android, Android 5.1 Lollipop. They have been patiently waiting for HTCs latest flagship device to receive the update to Android 5.1 and now that wait looks to finally be over. On the 3rd of August, the Product and Service Director at HTC EMEA, Graham Wheeler, tweeted the following, “Android 5.1 coming to EMEA HTC One m9 devices tomorrow…enjoy.” Nothing to attempt to decipher here, Graham is pretty straight forward about the Android 5.1 update hitting EMEA HTC One M9 devices beginning tomorrow.

If you aren’t aware of what EMEA stands for, it means Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Meaning that the update talked about in this article will be hitting the HTC One M9 in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This update, unfortunately, is a tad bit late hitting the M9s in these markets as the same update has already been rolled out to the M9 on almost all 4 of the major US carriers as well as the international variant. This is quite odd considering devices on the US carriers are usually one of the last in line to get Android updates.

If you do happen to own an EMEA HTC One M9 then you can expect a good amount of improvements with the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Things like some tweaking of the system volume, an improved contacts app, and improvements to Quick Settings are all included in this update, plus much more. Above all else, a ton of bug fixes and stability improvements are included in the Android 5.1 update that should iron out most of the problems that were included in Android 5.0.

As you probably suspect, the update will be a staged rollout and will of course not be hitting all EMEA HTC One M9s at once. Regardless, most of you who own an EMEA M9 will probably be tapping away at that check for updates button for the next few days waiting for your update, just be patient. These things usually take around a couple of weeks to completely rollout, but you will get your Android 5.1 Lollipop goodness before long!
