Vodafone Will Promote XOLO’s Upcoming ‘Black’ Handset

XOLO is one of India-based smartphone OEMs which is doing really well as far as sales go, but they’re looking to step up their game. Micromax is India’s number one OEM, and the Micromax-owned YU company is also on the rise lately. A while back, we started receiving reports that XOLO intends to fire up a new ‘Black‘ line of devices which the company will sell in India after partnering up with one of India’s retailers. Now long after initial reports arrived, the first XOLO Black handset has been teased by Flipkart, which quite obviously suggested that the company partnered up with that Indian retailer.

That being said, we have some new official news regarding XOLO and their upcoming device. Vodafone India has announced an exclusive partnership with XOLO, and will promote their first ‘Black’ handset. Vodafone will create a demo zone for XOLO’s ‘Black’ handset in more than 100 Vodafone stores, where consumers will be able to try out the device before they buy it from Flipkart. Interestingly enough, Vodafone will only showcase the device, but won’t be able to sell it, which is kind of weird. You’ll be able to walk into a Vodafone store, try out the device, and then they’ll tell you to buy it from Flipkart (online). Vodafone won’t be completely out of the picture though, the company will offer free 1GB data per month for two months, or unlimited music content download for their subscribers.

“While online-only is a great strategy to test waters in a new market with a new model, this partnership will allow Xolo to tap into Vodafone’s brick-and-mortar retail presence. Exclusive demos and in-store experience coupled with additional Data offers will empower our customers with a great value proposition and help them remain connected always,” said Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer at Vodafone India. Xolo’s Business Head, Sunil Raina, added the following: “At Xolo, we believe in building great smartphone experience that goes beyond just the specs. Typically, for ‘online-only’ products, customers miss out on the opportunity to touch and try the product before the purchase. They have to just depend on the information available online and take a purchase decision basis that. It is for the first time that a brand is giving customers the opportunity to see and experience the product and make an informed choice, before making a purchase online.”

The XOLO Black handset is going to launch this Friday, June 10th. We’ll report back if any leaks surface in the meantime, so stay tuned for that, let’s see what XOLO has to offer.
