Sony has announced that they will be having an event on August 3rd, next week. And likely will be announcing a new smartphone or two. Many of us are expecting the Xperia M5, and not the Xperia Z5, which we expect to see at IFA in September. Today, Sony tweeted a hint or a teaser about this event, stating “Something golden is sparkling on the horizon… #Xperia“. There’s also a few pictures with that tweet, which you can see in the gallery down below.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Sony has done a gold-colored device. They’ve done them before, although they named them Copper instead of Gold. So perhaps this will be more of a gold rather than a copper color. Monday, Sony is set to announce this device, and we’ll be covering it as we always do here at Android Headlines. It’s no surprise that this device is going to be waterproof, as shown in one of the pictures below. it’s not a surprise seeing as just about every Sony device has been waterproof since the Xperia Z if not earlier than that. And Sony has finally been able to keep the micro USB port waterproof, which means no more flaps for charging your device. That’s a really great feature actually.
This announcement comes shortly after Sony announced their quarterly earnings. Where they did bring in some decent cash, mostly due to their camera and PlayStation businesses. But it’s also noteworthy that their Xperia business has declined quite sharply in this past quarter. Which they announced the Xperia Z3+/Z4, as well as started selling the Xperia M4 Aqua and the Xperia Z4 Tablet in that quarter. So there’s reason to believe that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 could be part of the reason for sales declining. But also their lack of marketing and bringing these devices over to the US also hurt them. Hopefully whatever device they announce next week, will actually make its way over to the US. As Sony does make some great devices, but many in the US are missing out on them. In fact, many don’t even know Sony makes smartphones.
