March 1, 2015 - Written By Cory McNutt

ZTE announced today that it is among the first smartphones to use a pioneering eye-based biometric solution from EyeVerify for an unprecedented password-free experience.  Their new flagship, the ZTE Grand S3 will launch with Eyeprint ID, which will allow the user a password-free method of unlocking their device.  Adam ZENG Xuezhong, Executive Vice President of ZTE Corporation and CEO of ZTE Mobile Devices said, “We are delighted to announce our partnership with EyeVerify that brings their leading Eyeprint IDâ„¢ solution to the ZTE Grand S3.  Our ZTE Grand series of smartphones is focused on offering the most secure devices in the market for business users worldwide.  Coupled with EyeVerify’s leading solution, the ZTE Grand S3 represents an unbeatable option for smartphone privacy.”

There will be no fingerprint scanner or sensor on the ZTE Grand S3 – it will incorporate a cutting-edge solution by using the front-facing camera (FFC) of the device to capture unique vein patterns found in the human eye.  Chris Barnett, EVP Global Sales & Marketing at EyeVerify said, “EyeVerify is excited to launch Eyeprint IDâ„¢ for users of ZTE devices – enabling highly accurate biometric authentication that eliminates password pain.”

EyeVerify Inc. is the creator of Eyeprint ID – it transforms an ordinary selfie into a key that protects your digital life.  It is a highly accurate, biometric technology, for smart devices that deliver convenient, secure and private authentication.  This patented solution uses existing FFCs on the mobile device to image and pattern-match the blood vessels in the whites of the eye.

The ZTE Grand S3 was initially launched domestically in China on January 7 and it received an IF DESIGN AWARD 2015 in recognition of its ‘top-class design.’  ZTE will expand its usage of the Eyeprint ID in upcoming models and will integrate it beyond merely unlocking your device.  Using the system for mobile payments and other applications that will require verification will enhance the user’s experience.  ZTE says that by using Eyeprint ID, their Grand series will be among the most secure devices and plans on positioning them for business enterprise use.  The ZTE Grand S3 with Eyeprint ID can be purchased online in China for approximately US$480.
