Sony Bags Four IF Design Awards; Xperia Z3 Gets Honored

February 28, 2015 - Written By Chintan Vithlani

Sony’s design team has some reason to rejoice, lead by the Xperia Z2 tablet, Sony recently was awarded four IF awards for outstanding design with its products. Sony has recently been teasing its new Xperia Z4 tablet which could very well be announced at MWC 2015. Considering that previous iterations have won laurels, the Xperia Z4 is expected to have even better design with the waterproofing goodness.

However, this is not the first time the company is receiving awards for design, the year before, Sony picked up five IF design awards for their  Xperia Z Ultra,  Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia C, SmartWatch 2, and Bluetooth Handset SBH52. This time around, the Xperia Z2 tablet, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Smartband and the LifeLog companion app have been awarded. The special one for the company remains to be the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet since it received a Gold award. The jury said that they loved the design of the tablet – especially its rounded corners which made the tablet easy to handle while using. Helping it stand out, were the less noticeable components as well as being water and dust proof, which till this date continues to be a rarity for a tablet. The category under which the Xperia Z2 tablet was awarded was – ‘IF Design Award 2015, Discipline Product’. Adding to the same category of awards was the Xperia Z3 which was honored with the IF Design Award 2015. Likewise, so did the Sony Smartband/SmartWatch 3. Adding to the hardware line-up, Sony’s LifeLog companion application for its wearable products was also recognized. The LifeLog app not only gathers data from your wrist, but also logs each activity performed on the phone. This includes time spent chatting on WhatsApp or clicking photos or talking on a call.

At MWC, we are expecting Sony to create some big news, alongside the Xperia Z4 tablet, we may have what some believe is the Xperia M4 Aqua. Sony has lined up its press launch on the 2nd of March after those from Samsung and HTC. Will the previous announcements overshadow Sony’s launch? Or do you guys think Sony will blow away our minds with something different? Let us know in the comments below.
