After years of instability and not-so-great smartphone sales number and along with that not exactly great financial results, HTC is hoping that 2015 is going to be a really successful year for the company. This Taiwan-based smartphone vendor had to cut costs in 2014 in order to turn profit, they are still not selling enough devices despite the fact they really are making both compelling hardware and software. HTC has decided to turn its attention to emerging markets and has started releasing more mid-range phones. We’ve been seeing a lot of Desire handsets in the last couple of months, and it seems like another one is on the way.

A well-known leaker, @upleaks, has released some information regarding an upcoming Desire handset by HTC, the A55 Desire series handset. This device is expected to arrive at MWC in Barcelona next month, and by the looks of its specifications, this is more a high-end offering than anything else, which is somewhat odd for a Desire-branded handset. Anyhow, according to the leaker, this device will sport a 5.5-inch 2K display along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. MediaTek’s MT6795 octa-core 64-bit processor will power on this thing and the device will ship with a 3,000mAh battery. 20-megapixel camera will be located on the back of this thing (with an LED flash next to it, though there are no details regarding that), and on the front of this device, HTC will include either the 13-megapixel snapper or the 4 UltraPixel sensor. BoomSound speakers will also be a part of this device, of course, and the handset will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop with HTC’s Sense UI 7.0 on top of it. Bluetooth 4.1 is also being mentioned in the leak.
The A55 will allegedly be available in White Rose Gold, Brown Gold and Gray color options and Dot View case will also be compatible and available for this device. The leaker also says that two variants of the device will be available for sale, a single SIM version for EMEA markets and a dual-SIM model for Asian markets. There you have it, as you can see, this is a high-end offering, and it seems a bit odd it carries the Desire branding. Either way, this thing looks really interesting to me, I guess we’ll get more info soon if there’s any truth to this leak.
