Xiaomi Mi Note Has Been Announced, Complete With A 5.7″ 1080p Display, Metal Frame And OIS

Xiaomi did great in 2014, they shipped 61 million handsets, which is three times more compared to 2013. This China-based company intends to ship a whole lot more in 2015 though, they intend to move 100 million devices this year, which is really optimistic. The company already announced their ultra affordable mid-ranger on January 4th, and they just announced another handset at their live event in Beijing. Let’s check out this device.

The company has announced the Xiaomi Mi Note handset at their event today. This device features a 5.7-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080, 386 PPI) Retina JDI display manufactured by Sharp, which has a NTSC color gamut of 95% and has a pixel-level dynamic contrast adjustment. This is a 2.5D curved glass we’re talking about, Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection is on the top of the display. In addition to all this, the display is 30% more battery efficient, according to Xiaomi, and it sports 1400:1 high contrast ratio. Xiaomi calls it the “Sunshine Screen”, and it reduces eye strain. The device itself sports a metallic frame and is only 6.95mm thick, while it weighs 161 grams.

As far as the battery goes, 3,000mAh unit ships with this device and it supports Quick Charge 2.0 capability. This thing features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera (f/2.0 aperture) with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) which is flanked by a dual-LED flash. 4-megapixel camera is located on the front side of this handset. The handset also supports Hi-Fi sound, 192kHz / 24bit format output. It has ES9018 and OPA1612 chips built-in. MIUI has also been updated for the larger screen format, it now offers one-handed mode, and it runs on top of Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Xiaomi Mi Note is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor which ships with an Adreno 330 GPU for graphics processing. The phone comes with 3GB of RAM and has dual-SIM support (micro + nano SIM), along with dual 4G, dual standby connectivity. As far as connectivity goes, bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and GPS are all available here, of course. The 16GB version of the phone will cost only 2,299 Yuan ($371), while the 64GB version will set you back 2,799 Yuan ($451). These are really, really appealing price points for this handset, Xiaomi did it again. The device will be available for purchase on January 27 it seems.
