IK Multimedia Announces iRig Mic Studio, A Portable Condenser Mic For Android

January 26, 2015 - Written By Jeremiah Nelson

IK Multimedia just announced the GrooveMaker 2 DJ app, and they dropped the iRig 2 on Android fans not long ago, but they aren’t done yet. The company is also bringing their iRig Mic Studio to Android. The iRig Mic Studio is a digital condenser microphone that works with Android, as well as your PC, Mac, and iOS devices. The iRig microphone is a compact mic that “packs a 1-inch diameter condenser capsule into an ultra-compact enclosure that can be used to make professional recordings anywhere.” The microphone is geared towards musicians, vocalists, podcasters, home producers, and anyone else that needs a quality portable mic that works with your mobile device.

The iRig Mic Studio has a large 1″ diameter back electret condenser capsule, a 24-bit audiophile-grade A/D converter (with 44.1/48 kHz sample rate) and a built-in low-noise high-definition preamp. This lets it capture any type of sound, whether quiet or loud, and record it in high quality. The mic itself is smaller than your average smartphone and can easily be carried with you when you’re on the road, too. The iRig mic has a gain control knob, a headphone output knob, an LED level indicator, and comes with a portable tripod stand so you can prop it up on almost any surface. It supports micro USB connections and comes with a variety of cables. It supports micro USB OTG for Android connections. The iRig Mic Studio does require an Android 5.0 Lollipop, or one of the previously announced Samsung Professional Audio devices though, so keep that in mind.

The mic comes equipped several apps that can be downloaded EZ Voice is on the Google Play Store and lets you sing along with songs from your music library. The iRig Recorder app lets you record sound for podcasting, note taking, or whatever else you want to record. The iRig Mic Studio should also work with most third-party recording software and apps. The mic and the Android apps will be available sometime in Q1 2015 at electronics retailers and on IK Multimedia’s website for $179.99.
