Elephone is a small company compared to some giants in the industry, but still one that earns the attention we both in and out of China give it. Now, the company’s latest offering, the Precious or G7, is up on their site and heading to their store soon. The Precious is quite the phone, and we’ve gotten little tidbits about it as time has gone on, but now we can see a whole picture, as well as official, OEM-offered shots and publicity.
The Elephone Precious is a huge device… and I mean really huge. First, the biggest reason it’s made news is that it is only 5.5 millimeters thick, that’s less than a quarter of an inch, which is insane, especially given the internals and design. The phone features an astounding 5.5-inch display panel, likely an LCD, with a 1280 by 720 HD resolution, backed by a proud offering from MediaTek, the MT6592M and an octa-core processor running at 1.4 Ghz which is paired with a gigabyte of RAM. It’s also got an aluminum frame, which is only 2.7 millimeters thick by the way, which surrounds the device, making it gorgeous.
Now, the optics of smartphones are rivaling the importance of the screen resolution and the Elephone Precious is not one to disappoint in the optics department. For all you megapixel fans, it’s got a 13-and-8 back-front setup, with the rear-firing one having a dual-tone flash to accompany it. The back lens also has a 2.0 aperture, so no sluggish photo snapping happens on the Precious.
The device has 8 GB of internal storage, so cloud users will be perfectly happy with that and f they’re not, there’s always a MicroSD card slot just in case. With the device’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat, you’ll get the latest from Google in terms of performance, as well as the usual array of connectivity through Bluetooth 4.0, A-GLONASS for GPS, as well as dual-SIM capabilities. The device hasn’t received a price tag yet, from what we can see, but it will likely hit a sweet spot like Elephone’s other unique devices. A device to set a new design standard doesn’t have to have top-tier specifications, so keep an eye on this phone and its upcoming competitors to see if there’s an influence. What do you think of what Elephone is doing as a business, with its rather large and mid-range devices? Think they’re doing good business, filling a niche market and making those people very happy? Would you consider picking the Precious G7 up if the price was good enough? Let us know down below.
