If you were following the news yesterday, you would know that there was quite a big update landing for Android Wear devices. This was the Lollipop update bringing smart watches and the like up to Android 5.0.1. These are in the process of rolling out to devices and therefore if you hold on you should see them landing soon enough. That said, a number of you will be continually hitting that check for update hoping to get it as soon as possible. Well, we like to help those people out and so below is a list of the currently available downloads.
It is worth remembering that to install these downloads (sideload) you need to be able to connect your smartwatch to your computer. If you cannot do this, then you cannot update. Not to mention, even then, there is the possibility that the update might not work. This is a new tech and sideloading is not as solid as it is on smartphones at the moment, The process is rather similar to what we do on smartphones, so you will need ADB installed on your computer and you will need to have the USB drivers downloaded from the Android SDK.
Once this is all done, reboot you smartwatch into recovery mode, select ‘Install Update From ADB’. Follow this by opening a command window and typing in “adb sideload” with the correctly named zip file from below. Don’t be surprised if this does not work and as usual, if you do try, you do so at your own risk. All links are direct from Google so try not to worry about the security of the links.
N.B. The Moto 360 link is provided below although you are highly advised not to try the download. Remember AYOR (At Your Own Risk).
For the Asus ZenWatch, your download is not currently available yet so stay tuned.
For the Sony Smartwatch 3 your update is currently not available yet so stay tuned.
