The Ascend Mate 7 Has Exceeded Huawei’s Expectations

November 7, 2014 - Written By Kristijan Lucic

Huawei announced company’s Ascend Mate 7 phablet at this year’s IFA in Berlin. This is a really powerful machine and it comes in two variants, sporting 2 and 3GB of RAM. It seems like Huawei underestimated its product, in other words, they underestimated the demand for this handset. According to the latest report from China, Huawei received a ton of order for the Ascend Mate 7 and didn’t prepare properly, the company sold 12,000 units during the 1 month this handset has been available. This doesn’t sound like a lot, but the company just didn’t expect it. This doesn’t mean the company won’t be able to deliver enough handsets, far from it, Huawei has a significant production chain and they’ll deliver the ordered amount without an issue, but this is an interesting piece of information. The main reason Huawei didn’t expect such demand is because the company didn’t invest all that much in Ascend Mate 7’s marketing push, they just didn’t market the handset like they should. This actually raises the question how many units would consumers order if Huawei actually pushed the handset properly through marketing. Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is a really powerful piece of technology, one which we’ve reviewed, if you’re interested, you can read it here.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 comes in two variants, the only difference between the two are the amount of RAM and internal storage. Cheaper variant comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (black and white models) while the more expensive model ships with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (gold model). Other than that, specifications of these two models are the same. Ascend Mate 7 features a 6-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) IPS LCD display and it also offers MicroSD expansion, in case 16 or 32GB of internal storage is not enough for you. On the back of the device, you’ll find a 13-megapixel sensor and a dual LED flash while there’s 5-megapixel snapper located on the front of the device. Ascend Mate 7 is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 925 octa core processor (quad-core 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 and quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7) which comes with Mali-T628 GPU for graphics rendering. This device ships with a non-removable 4100mAh battery which should provide plenty of juice for you to use and Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed with Huawei’s Emotion UI on top of it. Ascend Mate 7 measures 157 x 81 x 7.9mm while it weighs 185 grams.
