ZTE held a conference in China a couple of days ago and announced 2 new handsets, the ZTE V5 Max and the ZTE V5S. We’re talking about mid-range handsets here both of which resemble ZTE’s Nubia line of devices considering they were designed by the same team. Anyhow, the ZTE V5 Max is definitely the more powerful device here, it features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB. 3100mAh removable battery is also a part of this package, so if you need a spare you can change it in no time. The V5S on the other hand features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is also expandable. It comes with a 2400mAh battery. These two devices are different in size and weight as well, though that is to be expected considering their respective screen sizes. They share other specifications though.

Both of these devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410, a 64-bit quad-core processor which comes with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics rendering. 13-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture) can be found on both of these devices, same goes for a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. Both of these smartphones come with dual-SIM support as well as 4G LTE connectivity. Talking about connectivity, they support China Unicom, China Telecom and China Mobile bands. Android 4.4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here with ZTE’s Nubia 2.5 UI on top of it, which brings a bunch of ZTE’s software features on the inside.

If you take a look at the gallery below this article, you’ll be able to see the latter device unboxed and compared with the ZTE U9180 aka V5 Red Bull (V5S is the one on the right). Keep in mind that the original ZTE V5 Red Bull has been launched earlier this year, but it shares some of the specs with the V5S (this device is basically its successor) and they look the same basically. Anyhow, if you’re interested, take a look at the images below. As a reminder, the ZTE V5 features a 5-inch 720p screen just like the V5S, though it comes with Snapdragon 400 quad-core CPU, which is a 32-bit chip compared to the 64-bit one in the V5S. 1GB memory is present on both devices, but V5S comes with somewhat more internal storage, 8GB compared to the 4GB on the original V5. The original V5 sports the same camera sensors as both the V5S and V5 Max and device ships with Android 4.3 JellyBean. As a reminder, the ZTE V5S costs 899, while the ZTE V5 Max is priced at 999 Yuan. I’d argue that V5 Max is a far better option considering you get an extra GB of RAM.
