Nova Launcher Beta Updated With Lollipop Animations And Icons

October 21, 2014 - Written By Jeremiah Nelson

Nova Launcher is one of the best third-party home screen replacements you can get. The app is rock solid and chock full of customizable goodness. The Nova Launcher beta is even more cutting edge, with new features pushed to it that are on their way to the stable version of the app. Nova Launcher beta got an update today that brings with it a bunch of Android 5.0 Lollipop animations and transitions. There’s a new folder animation that is pulled straight from Lollipop, and a new Lollipop scroll indicator. The update brings some updated icon themes as well.

The Nova Launcher beta is something that you’ll have to sign up for if you want to take advantage of it. Just head over to this Google+ community and join the group then hit the Play Store link below. If you go to the Nova Launcher page on the Play Store without joining the beta first, you’ll just find the current stable version of the app. The stable version doesn’t have the new animations yet. Keep in mind that the beta build of the launcher might be buggy and have a few quirks. This is to test out the new stuff and iron out the kinks before the update makes it to the stable build. Don’t be surprised or upset if you download the beta and then something goes wrong. It’s been solid for me so far, though, and the new animations are slick.

Android 5.0 Lollipop was quietly announced last Wednesday, October 15. We still don’t have the update, but we expect to see a public release in the beginning part of November. In the meantime, Google has released an updated preview build of Lollipop. The Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will be out soon, too. In fact, the Nexus 9 got a hands-on walk through in video form and it looks really great.

Is Nova Launcher your personal favorite? If not, what launcher do you use?
