The Nexus Player Sells Out On Google Play

October 17, 2014 - Written By Justin Diaz

Today was the long awaited day of the pre-orders for two out of three of Google’s newly announced Nexus devices, including the Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player with Android TV. While the Nexus 9 tablets still seem readily available, the Nexus Player seems to have sold out even though it’s still in a pre-order status. Sadly, if you didn’t place your order much earlier in the day you’ll have to end up waiting until Google regains more inventory to stock their Google Play shelves. If you navigate over to Google Play as of now and click on the new Nexus device banner, you’ll see the order pages for the Nexus 6 the Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player. Clicking on the Nexus Player link still takes you to the page of course, but you’re now met with a message that states, “We are out of inventory. Please check back soon.”

This probably won’t be much of a shock to anyone as these things tend to sell out quickly, the same fate will more than likely befall the Nexus 6 once it is made available for pre-order. As expected, Google is out of inventory on the Gamepad for Nexus Player too, which although sold separately, it goes hand in hand with the Nexus Player for the full experience so we aren’t surprised that they were all snatched up as well. Unfortunately we don’t have any sort of timeframe for when there will be more stock, but we’d just simply suggest that if you’re interested in grabbing one of these and you missed out today, to check back often and probably a couple times a day.

The Nexus Player for anyone who is still unaware is Google’s evolution of sorts of Android in the living room. It runs what is called Android TV which is based off of Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it offers access to Movies, Games, TV, Music and more all wrapped up in an easy to use interface. The remote even has voice search built in so you don’t have to type a thing when searching for content to consume, and the Gamepad of course, well… you know what that’s for. Is anyone going to be picking the Nexus Player and the Gamepad for Nexus Player up once they’re back in stock?
