HTC is a rather interesting company, no matter which way you look at it. This Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer used to manufacture hardware for other companies, that was a long time ago. Since then this has turned into a respectable company with tons of great (Android) devices. They sure do know what they’re doing when it comes to design and build quality, I’d even say the same for their software, but they just can’t sell enough devices to save their life. The company has been facing loses quarter after quarter for a long time now and then they decided to restructure their business and cut costs, thank to that move the company managed to turn profit in Q3 this year, but that won’t save them unless they find a way to move more devices. The company has been announcing smartphones left and right, we’ve seen HTC Desire Eye launched recently alongside the action camera called RE Camera, HTC Desire 820 was launched before than and the most recent leaks were from TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) which showed us 2 new HTC devices for the Chinese market. It seems like HTC is trying to saturate the market with its products.
That being said, there’s one HTC device that has been rumored for a long time and it interests me a lot, HTC’s very own Android Wear smartwatch. This device has been rumored for months and then HTC confirmed we won’t see it launched before 2015. That’s too bad, because HTC will be late yet again and other manufacturers might steal their thunder. However, considering HTC’s know-how when it comes to design, I have high expectations for this piece of hardware. I actually expect it to look better than Motorola’s Moto 360 and Hasan Kaymak made the latest concept design of that smartwatch which looks great. These concept images / video, of course, don’t show us HTC’s smartwatch offering in any way, this is just Mr. Kaymak’s concept of what the watch should look like. I have to say that this look beautiful, in my humble opinion, though truth be said, most concepts like this one do look great and basically never come to life.
If you take a look at the gallery down below you’ll find a ton of concept images (and a video clip) to feast your eyes on. I hope HTC has seen this and will make something similar, Motorola did a great job with Moto 360 and it will be hard for HTC to top that, but I hope they will. These concept images are great, but I don’t believe they’re doable, at least not yet. The smartwatch shown in those images is way too thin and I don’t believe any OEM can fit everything needed in there and make it look like that, though I wouldn’t mind it to be slightly thicker (like the Moto 360), as long as it looks like that. Anyhow, do you like these concept images and are you interested in smartwatches at all? Do you own one?
