Sling Media Updates Their Sling App To Include Chromecast Support

Ready for more applications that have Chromecast support? We thought you might be. Recently Twitch, Drama Fever, iheart Radio and a handful of Disney Channel apps announced that they were adding support for the Chromecast HDMI streaming media dongle and today it looks like Sling Media’s Sling app is adding support as well. Sling Media’s app and Slingbox combo is a one two punch of awesome that basically delivers cable TV content to your smartphone or tablet. It’s great for watching TV content on the go as the Slingboxes are linked and connected directly to your cable box, all you need is the app and a fast working internet connection.

It might seem odd that Sling Media would add support for Chromecast as if you have cable TV, you’ll probably just watch it through the cable on your TV. However if you think about it the Chromecast support makes perfect sense. Not everywhere you go is going to have cable, which is why the Chromecast becomes a great little partner to the Slingbox and the Sling app. You can simply tap into your own Slingbox at home from wherever you are using the app, and then from there you can simply cast whatever you’re streaming to the big screen using the Chromecast.

The pairing is a no-brainer of sorts and makes for the perfect companion to any weary traveler wondering if he or she might be able to get their daily dose of broadcast news or primetime TV shows. The app and Chromecast streaming support of course works with a selection of Sling boxes, and you’ll need one of the ones listed for the compatibility to be there. If you own a Slingbox model M1, 350, or Sling TV/500, the Chromecast streaming is within reach, you’ll just need a Chromecast and wifi and you’re good to go. Do you currently use a Slingbox with the Sling Media app? If so are you looking forward to being able to try out the Chromecast streaming functionality along with it? It seems like the perfect setup for someone who travels a lot for work and wants access to whatever channels they subscribe to at home. You can grab the Sling app for $14.99, and of course the Chromecast will set you back $35. If you don’t have a Slingbox yet, the M1 model can be picked up for $149, the Slingbox 500 goes for $249, and the 350 model looks to be on sale for around $118 all through Amazon.
